Caption: On the 15th of March 2018, our school organised an EkoDay to raise awareness re-waste management. A WasteServ official gave an informative presentation to both students and parents how to reduce, re-use and recycle waste to protect the environment. For example, parents together with students can prepare school lunches in lunch boxes instead of paper or plastic bags. Although this is just one small action, it will certainly have a large impact on waste minimisation eventually reducing landfill use.

Plastic waste is certainly detrimental to our health and to several animal species. In this article several suggestions are made including: using glass instead of plastic bottles, using re-usable plastic bottles and introduce refundable deposit systems on plastic bottles.

Last October 2017, our school organised a special event inviting special guests…our own pets!! As young reporters for the environment, we had the chance to report on this activity by interviewing people (including our Head of School) and taking photos. Through our work, we need to send a strong message against animal cruelty. We strongly believe in Mahatma Gandhi’s quote: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

How should burnt oil be thrown away? Can we recycle it? These are the questions that our students asked and researched after noticing the amount of oil that is thrown away. The research involved internet research, vox pops, an online survey, interviews to WasteServ and an interview to the Mayor of the locality. Towards the end of the video the students created a short tutorial on how oil should be disposed of correctly.

If the environment was karma, we would be in a bigger mess than this. Let’s prevent an apocalyptic future by littering less and protecting the environment.
