Let’s make a difference

Let us make a difference to protect our environment and keep it clean. Battery bins for small batteries are found in various places. Valuable metals like cobalt, nickel and silver are recovered from batteries. The Local Council provides the Bulky Refuse service which is offered free of charge to the general public. Bring-in Sites on our island consist of four containers: Blue – plastic, White – paper, Brown – glass, Black – metal. Please separate waste at home by using the grey or black bags. At school we separate waste: plastic, paper, batteries and ink-cartridges. The EkoSkola committee in our school help us to be more aware of our environment. It is a pity that although we have lots of information about recycling there are still people who throw their waste in the countryside. Reduce, reuse and recycle. Much energy can be saved by recycling than by manufacturing new items.

Garbage, rubbish, waste, litter…

Do not put out the garbage bag more than an hour before the truck comes because dogs might tear it. We have three places with recycle bins to sort the material and recycle in our village. We can recycle metal, plastic, paper and glass in separate bags to help to reuse the materials and create jobs. If you throw garbage on pavements people can’t walk on it so they will go on the road and they will get hit by cars. If you throw garbage in the fields trees can’t grow, you will get a fine and pay for it. With rubbish in the fields the countryside will be damaged and no tourist will come to visit our beautiful island. For fridges, sofas, beds and more you can call the local council and they will take it. Waste attracts insects and contaminate the ground water soil and air causing diseases.

Let’s work with Wasteserv

I was walking in my village and I saw many different waste in the streets. If people get out the recycle bag very early in the morning, dogs can tear it. I also saw some bags in the middle of street. I was thinking, the bags can cause a car accident. Glass thrown in our villages may hurt our pets and people when they are walking. Damaged pavements cause many injuries, like people fall and get hurt. If we don’t throw waste in streets, we can have a better environment. There is the WasteServ Civic Amenity Site and bring in sites where we can put many different materials for recycling. So let’s make a better living by recycling things in grey bags and other waste in black bags. The WasteServ recycles materials collected in Bring in Sites.

Illegal waste in fields

The pictures show illegal waste in fields. This type of waste has a negative impact on the environment. Nowadays, Government and Local Councils offer many services to the people to reduce this type of problem. For example, in Xewkija there is a Civic Amenity Site where people can take their bulky refuse. When tourists come to visit our country they will not be happy when they see waste in our countryside. Apart from this, it is a shame for us to ruin our countryside. One good thing is that today people are more aware and this problem is being reduced. Hopefully when we grow up this problem will be solved.

Who wants a dirty environment?

We must keep our environment clean. If you throw away the rubbish on the grass, around trees and streets, this is not healthy. Keeping our environment clean is important for our health and our happiness. Many people can get ill from waste thrown out and pollution is spread around us. People can also die. Throwing our waste away means that animals, insects and small reptiles can also die. Throwing our waste around is very dangerous – our streets become dangerous places where to walk, talk and meet friends. Our beaches will also be dangerous places where to go and build castles on the sand and play with friends. If we do not want that all these things to happen, we must put our rubbish in the right bin. We must and we should waste separate every day, every time we do have waste material.
