This video was aimed to make people reflect on our air, land and marine pollution. It shows photos of how Malta improved in this regard as long as a lot of people were staying indoors during the partial pandemic lockdown. This video also shows the present reality and it creates awareness of how important and necessary it is to put our efforts and keep up this level of pollution at a lower level. Even when restrictions are being released, we must all focus to have a cleaner and better environment. You Tube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8TVuZFR4s0

I used 2 toy models … a polar bear and an arctic fox … which are both endangered. I wanted to create this video so that I could raise awareness about climate change and the effect our actions are leaving on nature. The background song is a song about climate change by One Republic. It is a song that is as if the world is speaking. The water had food coloring which is non-toxic and it was then used to water our plants, so no water was wasted. To shoot this video I had some help with setting up the camera and editing the video. The original video was 2.75 hours long and in the final video all the footage is present, it is just speeded up. The polar bear and the arctic fox fell from the ice as soon as it started melting … making us realize the imminence of the situation. We then turned on a fan to try to simulate weather in the arctic. Then we used a torch to simulate days and time passing by … the situation remaining unnoticed … the ice melting. In the reflection of the ice and water, one can see us moving and going on with our day. This symbolizes our actions being reflected on nature … our same actions which are destructing the environment.

This is Luqa Primary’s project for the litterless campaign. It involved active collaboration between our Year 6 classes, the EkoSkola Team the Pupil’s Council, the local Parish and the Luqa Local Council. The objective is to reduce the litter caused by the incorrect disposal of cigarette butts. Throughout this year the children learnt more about the dangers that cigarette butts pose not only to the environment but also to our body. During a clean up activity, we scouted the areas surrounding our school to identify specific places where there was a considerable amount of cigarette butts and we used the allocated funds to buy a number of outdoor ashtrays that will be installed in these designated areas. This will reduce the amount of cigarette butts in the soil and on the pavements. The objective of the video is to raise awareness about this issue with the public .

It feels like Malta has become a permanent construction site. From local news it is evident that local councils, NGOs are inundated with complaints by residents about the many inconveniences caused by the construction industry. However, these seem to fall on deaf ears and greedy developers are not only abusing our land but also workers. The information used to create this video was taken from information on a few articles recently published on local newspapers and photographs taken by the author himself. The aim of this video is to show the urgent state of the situation on both the environment and society.. This craze to create iconic exclusive buildings and high-rise developments, makes me question its sustainability and what will my country look like in a few years from now.

GCSS Ekoskola students prepared a short video to raise awareness about the harmful practice of double-bagging grocery items. Our students carried out research online about the dangers that single-use plastics pose to our environment and to our planet. After they went to a local greengrocer armed with their mobile phones and asked for some items at the deli counter, educating the server in the process about the wastefulness fo double-bagging shop items. This video was then edited using Movie Maker 10.
