Recently, I went to Ghar Lapsi with my family and there we saw lots of jellyfish in the sea, trapped in plastic. This photo reminds me of sea turtles. The turtle’s favourite food is jellyfish, so where there are lots of jellyfish, turtles might be close by. Turtles mistake plastic for jellyfish and often, they will eat the plastic which gets stuck in their stomach and sadly, they usually die. Remember to clean up after yourself!

The photo is trying to capture the amount of waste that is being disposed in our countryside. What was more worse was the fact that it was disposed in a Maltese Girna, hence destroying our Maltese Cultural Heritage!!!

I saw this lying around and it really made us angry. Someone decided to leave his half finished meal lying around … so they not only littered but also wasted food for nothing. It really is a shame that at this day and age people still leave waste lying around. I mean what does it take to just put everything back in the bag and throw it in a bin?

Unfortunately people still throw waste in the countryside, thinking that since it might be an isolated area, waste is hidden and will not be noticed.

At our school we are constantly trying to promote the 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recyle. This scholastic year we are working towards eliminating single use plastic within our school community. For this purpose we have held a poster/logo competition where the children of the school used their creativity to design posters to create this awareness. Then 5 of these posters/logos were chosen and were printed on cloth bags. The cloth bags with the children’s original designs were going to be sold during parents day and merit week (which are not postponed) These cloth bags will be sold to parents/guardians/educators/children to promote reusing.
