Introduction: Did you know that Malta ranks second in the EU with the most municipal waste using 694kg per person each year? Litter is nothing but a piece of waste or rubbish that has been disposed of improperly in the wrong location. Littering simply means throwing away objects on the ground instead of disposing them in a garbage can, recycling bin or a trash container.

Introduction: Did you know that every year 51 billion pieces of litter is found? In the past years, the amount of recycling not only doubled but almost tripled from 37 million tonnes to 107 million tonnes, (which means that 87 kg per person in 1995 and 239 kg per person in 2019). Although slightly more waste is being generated, the total amount of municipal waste in the EU has more than halved since 1995 from 121 million tonnes to 54 million tonnes in 2019.
