Since the students of St. Monica School Gzira, want to raise awareness about this, our Eko-Skola committee decided to build a roof garden at our school. The roof garden will give us the benefit of growing our own organic food, which will be used in the school’s tuck shop and the organic waste left will be reused in the soil. Another benefit is that our biology students will have the opportunity to plant their own crops which they will use for their experiments.

Through this process, the planted aquatic plants purify water from nitrates and phosphates, reduce Carbon dioxide and release Oxygen. However, prior to undergoing phytoremediation, the entire process primarily needs to undergo an MBBR (Moving Bed Bioreactor) process and MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) process.
