By going paperless in our school we contribute directly to reducing waste, water, and power use – which provide a cleaner and more sustainable world for our children in the future. Furthermore, by switching to the digital communication platform by means of digital tools, we do not only reach our classrooms but, we reach teachers, all parents, secretaries, students and all the school community. In this way, with this smart initiative we reach them just as when we used to reach them with information on paper BUT without creating any waste. School committee together with SMT are aware of throwing away used unwanted good clothes & shoes. Sometimes this is done because of the modern society, the need arises to change clothes and style or because we just can’t wear them anymore. Students said that this is generating unnecessary waste as this is being disposed of in their house bins, and they know that clothing can be a large contributor to the destruction of the environment. Therefore, we decided to bring to school, children’s and adults’ used clothes and shoes, which could be easily recycled and reused, given to other children who are less fortunate and to donation centers to have a second life. The aim behind this activity is to learn from a young age how to reduce waste on our throw away culture by recycling and reusing.

An awareness campaign to teach students, parents and teachers about Hazardous Waste Prevention. Examples of alternative natural products instead of chemicals, were promoted. Students reached parents to raise awareness in their homes and then to reach the outer community by also implementing actions at school and outside the school. Throughout the EWWR week we decided to go ‘HAZARDOUS FREE’. We made household cleaning products by using safe and degradable ingredients and used them together at school to show to all students and teachers that there is always a safer way for this. We also went to an old peoples home, talk about hazardous waste, distributed leaflets and explained why we are using our products. This activity is being done to show that hazardous waste is very harmful for our environment and for our health, and how we can avoid it by using safe products as it is very essential
