Electronic waste is rising rapidly worldwide, including in Malta, containing toxic substances that harm the environment and human health when disposed of unsafely. Fast‑changing technology encourages people to replace rather than repair devices, wasting valuable materials and contributing to pollution and climate change. A questionnaire carried out by the school’s EkoSkola committee showed that while most members of the learning community understand basic recycling terms, many are unsure about e‑waste. Almost half dispose of e‑waste responsibly, though many still keep old devices at home. These findings inspired an action plan involving awareness campaigns and creative upcycling projects, such as turning old keyboard keys into keychains and bookmarks. The initiative aims to encourage repairing, reusing, and proper recycling to reduce e‑waste’s impact.
