Nature recycling itself

This photo story shows how nature recycles itself. Leaves fall, dry, and slowly break down into compost, returning nutrients to the soil. It reminds us that nothing in nature is wasted. However, many people throw organic waste away instead of composting it. By composting at home or school, we can reduce waste and help create healthier soil for plants. Photo 1 – The Start: A tray of soil ready. Photo 2 – Fresh Leaves: Two green leaves on the soil, beginning their natural journey. Photo 3 – Drying Out: The leaves start to dry as they break down over time. Photo 4 – Back to Earth: The leaves decompose and turn into compost, feeding the soil again.

Growing in different places

filed under Photo Story Photos

This photo story shows different areas where plants can grow and how each space supports nature. In the first photo, plants are growing in a pond, helping to clean the water and support small wildlife. In the second photo, we see young plants and seedlings in small pots, carefully grown so they can develop strong roots. The third photo shows plants in larger pots, giving them more space to grow. In the fourth photo, grass is growing under a tree, providing shade and a cool habitat. In the final photo, trees and grass grow together in a larger natural area. However, many green spaces are being lost due to urban development, pollution, and lack of care. This reduces habitats for wildlife and affects the environment.

Juda’s tree

This photo story shows how a Judas tree changes through the seasons. In the first photo, the tree looks bare in winter, with no leaves or flowers. In the second photo, it is full of bright pink flowers in spring, showing new life and growth. In the third photo, the flowers have fallen to the ground, showing the end of this stage and the start of a new cycle. This highlights how trees follow natural cycles and depend on healthy environments to grow. An environmental problem is climate change and pollution, which can affect when trees grow, flower, and lose their leaves. We can help by planting more trees and reducing pollution.

Shade in heat

In Malta the sun can be very strong especially in Summer. This photo story shows us why trees are so important. First, the sun shines brightly in the sky, making the temperature rise and everything hot. Then, its rays pass through a carob tree, showing how the tree blocks some of the rays and heat. Finally under the tree, there is cool shade where people and animals can rest in a cooler place. This shows us the importance of trees in hot countries like Malta because they keep us, other creatures, and our environment cooler and more comfortable Photo 1 – The bright sun in the sky on a hot day in Malta Photo 2 – Sun rays passing through the branches of a carob tree Photo 3 – Cool shade under the carob tree is a good place to rest from the sun heat

Reused branches

This photo story shows a tree that was partly cut down, the pieces left behind, and how they were later turned into mulch. It shows the damage caused to nature and how the branches can still be reused. Cutting trees affects the environment, but responsible use of resources can reduce waste. We can take action by protecting trees, and reusing natural materials in sustainable ways. Photo 1 – A Tree Cut Short – This photo shows a tree that has been partly cut down. It reminds us that human actions can harm nature. We should protect trees and only cut them when necessary. Photo 2 – the branches – This photo shows the cut pieces of the tree left behind. Photo 3 – Turning Waste into Value – This photo shows the wood pieces turned into mulch. It shows how waste can be reused in a helpful way.

The Cycle of the Carob Description

This photo story shows the life cycle of a carob tree, from green carobs growing on the tree, to ripening and turning brown, and finally falling to the ground where they slowly become compost. It shows how nature works, with nothing going to waste. This is important because healthy ecosystems depend on these natural processes to recycle nutrients. We can help the environment by protecting trees, leaving natural materials to decompose, and respecting the balance of nature. Photo 1: Growing Green Green carobs growing on the tree. Photo 2 Ripening Stage The carob turns brown as it matures. Photo 3 the carob goes back to earth The fallen carob returns to the soil and slowly turns into compost.

Seed to Marrow

These photos show the life cycle of a marrow plant. In the first photo, the plant is small and just starting to grow. In the second photo, it becomes bigger and starts to produce flowers. In the third photo, we can see the flower and the marrow growing, showing how the plant produces food step by step. However, growing plants like this is becoming harder due to problems like lack of water, pollution, and loss of natural soil. These issues can affect how well plants grow and reduce the food we can produce. We can help by saving water, avoiding harmful chemicals, and growing plants in a more natural and sustainable way. Photo 1 – A small marrow plant begins to grow. Photo 2 – The plant grows bigger and starts to flower. Photo 3 – The flower develops into a growing marrow.

Aquaponics system

We have an aquaponics system that shows a way of growing food while saving resources. In the first photo, water from the fishpond flows into the aquaponics tanks, carrying natural nutrients from the fish. In the second photo, the plants are growing in the tanks, using these nutrients to stay healthy without the need for soil or extra fertilisers. In the third photo, the water is filtered through the system and returns to the fishpond cleaner than before. This system helps show how food can be grown in a more efficient way by reusing water, reducing waste, and avoiding harmful chemicals. It also demonstrates how natural systems can work together to support both plants and fish in a balanced environment.

Growing sunflower in our garden

submitted by Kullegg San Nikola – Skola Dun Manwel Attard Wardija : Keziah Micallef

We planted sunflower seeds in our garden and watched them grow. In the first photo we took a picture of sunflower seeds. They are very small, but they can grow into big nice flowers. In the second photo, we took a picture of a sunflower ready to open and show us the beautiful yellow colours, like the sun, hence its name! In the third picture we can see that it has grown into a nice flower. It is big, bright and follows the sun. It also helps insects like bees. In the forth photo, we took a picture of a sunflower that has now closed and dried. This shows that plants change, grow over time and the last stage of life would be to drop the seeds so that the cycle of another plant can start again. We learned that plants need sun, water and care to grow

At our school, we have chickens that we look after every day. Photo 1 – shows one chicken walking around the garden. This image highlights how friendly the chickens are in their environment. Photo 2 – shows a group of chicken moving together across the garden. They often stay close to one another, spending time together. Photo 3 – shows the fresh eggs laid by our chicken. These photos show how the chicken contribute to our school and reminds us of the importance of caring for animals responsibly. By looking after our chicken, we learn to respect living things, maintain a clean and safe environment, and understand how much animals are important.
