Every day, I rewatch the process of how from a single plastic, I became a blue swimsuit made out of polyester. The preoccupation in my mind of the shredded plastic bottles, the endless yelling that I heard from my fellow friends and the pain that I felt while I was wrapped up in cellophane. Where am I going? in what country? what universe I’m going into? I can still hear the squeaking seperations between the clear and coloured plastic bottles. Them yelling in pain, as if it was the last time they were going to see each other. How about the agony that I felt while I was being bathed in that burning water and the torture of the label getting detached of my body. This video aims to raise awareness on the misuse of plastic. Plastic has become such a common thing we use everyday. We take it for granted. But we seem to forget that this excessive use of plastic is causing a lot of harm in our environment, especially in the sea.

Recently, I went to Ghar Lapsi with my family and there we saw lots of jellyfish in the sea, trapped in plastic. This photo reminds me of sea turtles. The turtle’s favourite food is jellyfish, so where there are lots of jellyfish, turtles might be close by. Turtles mistake plastic for jellyfish and often, they will eat the plastic which gets stuck in their stomach and sadly, they usually die. Remember to clean up after yourself!

This is a short video clip to raise awareness on the harmful effects of plastic bags. This clip was created by a group of students and their teachers who form part of the Litterless group at Our Lady Immaculate School in Hamrun. The message is simple unless we do something today we will be harming future generations. We have to stop using plastic bags and instead we must start to use reusable bags.

The world is affected by global warming. Changes in temperature affect many aspects of our lives. Natural Maltese ecosystems such as Chadwick Lakes are also affected by this concern. Such effects can cause droughts which are a threat to different species living in this valley, including the Maltese frog and the Maltese fresh water crab.
