Malta is one of the most traffic jam places in Europe. In September 2023, Malta had 436,007 registered vehicles. Most of these vehicles, approximately 73.9% were passenger vehicles. With a population of approximately 542,051, this means that for every three people there are two cars. This high number of cars in Malta is the cause to Malta’s traffic and pollution problem.

This can have long-term impacts on the health of ecosystem and the services they provide such as clean water and air. Land pollution can be prevented by reducing waste generation, using renewable energy sources and adopting sustainable agricultural practices.
