Clothes made from trash? Really? Yes you could be wearing clothes made from recycled fibres or materials. While walking along one of the most beautiful valleys in Gozo, I came across these plastic bags spoiling the natural surroundings. It is a known fact that plastic takes years to decompose. This valley is only a stone throw away from Ramla Bay and all litter including plastic ends up in the sea thus harming sea creatures either through entanglement or ingestion. What can we do? How can we stop this? Education is the key to influence others to behave correctly when dealing with environmental issues. Here are some suggestions; • Practice the 3Rs : Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. • Increase more waste bins everywhere in order to prevent people littering in the environment. • Try to reduce the usage of plastic and find other environment friendly alternatives. • Organise more clean up activities. Every little effort goes a long way for a better, safer and cleaner environment.

We, the people of the planet, are responsible of making Earth a safe home. Humans are capable of the impossible but what’s possible for the little creatures that wander through the earth? Pollution and habitat damage that we created is posing danger for these unique creatures. Hedgehogs are decreasing because they can get hit by cars, get entangled in litter or simply because their natural habitat is shrinking to satisfy our greed. With a little extra effort, we can all live in harmony.
