LITTERally no BUTTS about it Last Thursday, together with some members from the EkoSkola committee and the Pupil’s Council committee, we carried out a cigarette butt clean up in the vicinities of our school in Luqa. We also identified places where there was a considerable amount of cigarette butts since we are planning to install ashtrays in these target areas to reduce the amount of litter in our locality. We picked up so many cigarette butts that the bag started to stink. We found a considerable amount of cigarette butts in front of the church and close to the war memorial in St Andrew’s Street. People need to stop smoking as they are harming the environment. Smoking also damages their health. Some people get lung cancer or suffer from Emphysema which is one of the diseases you can get. A clean-up and maintenance activity was held was the Swatar Field by the EkoSkola committee together with Mr David Azzopardi and Ms Sasha Borg. Students under the supervision of the teachers conducted some pruning and weeding. The aim was to give students a hands on experience in the field.
